Growth isn’t just possible. It’s what we are put here on earth to do.

I recently completed a 10k running race. I hadn’t competed in a race for a while and decided to sign up for this one (July 16) and a half marathon which takes place on August 20.

While I had continued to stay fit and run regularly I missed that feeling of following a training plan, going through specific phases of training, getting to an event feeling in top physical condition knowing that you were fully prepared to tackle the event to the best of your ability. It was with this in mind that I decided to enter these events.

I also entered them because there is no better high than that finish line feeling. No training session comes close and it is addictive.

As I have trained and prepared for these races I have also pondered the need for progression. What is it about humans that keeps us striving forward. Knowing that we are working towards a target is what keeps us moving everyday.

Then I watched an address from Rich Roll on Youtube (See it HERE) and it summed it up perfectly for me.

These next few paragraphs are taken from that address.

Growth isn’t just possible. It’s what we are put here on earth to do.

‘Life is not about the destination or the finish line. It is about the journey. If you commit your life entirely to something this will result in one of 2 outcomes either you will succeed or you will die trying. Which is its own form of success. ‘ Casey Niestat.

As much as I love toeing the line or crossing the finish line it is all about the journey. I aspire to my own sense of greatness to push the envelope on what I am capable of. Let go of perfection, detach from results,  be willing to fail and fail and fail again and when all is lost you pick yourself up and go the extra mile.

The limits that we place upon ourselves are mental projections, they are illusions. We must embrace the truth that we are so much more than we allow ourselves to be.

With this comes a sense of meaning and purpose that no other destination can rival. A deep satisfaction that your life has value that goes beyond the illusion of security and comfort over the priceslessness of adventure and experience. (end excerpt)

Thus, I have concluded that it is not about the medals or accolades for me any longer. If I finish a race I don’t keep the shirt or the medal. I’ve thrown out all my previous finishers medals. Now it is only about the pursuit of perfection for myself. Knowing that each day I am striving to be a better person in many facets of my life. Not just physically but emotionally, spiritually and mentally as well. I am by no means perfect (nobody is) but I am trying to be better day by day, and that is all that we can do.

So I urge you to start to evaluate your life. Start to live deliberately and intentionally instead of passively or apathetically. There are so many was that you can live an intentional life, you can start to listen to your intuition more and the internal guidance system that is steering you towards a purpose that is of greater value to yourself and to others.

I’m not talking about purpose in a new-agey, go out and change the world sort of way, I’m just talking about a way of life that best suits you, that is true to you, that you feel resonates with you and you are truly in tune with.

So many of us live lives that are so out of tune with our true rhythm that we douse ourselves in numbing activities (tv, bad food, alcohol, trashy gossip mags, negativity, etc.) to try and drown out that constant nudge from our intuition that ultimately has our best intentions at heart.

When you start to go in the direction that you are being pulled, rather than being pushed, this allows you to be of more value to yourself and to those around you. You can show up in a new light that was once dimmed and you can shine for all the world to see.

Peace. Namaste.
